  2. The League "Dr Faustus" - German Helles Lager - All Grain Kit 23l
    $44.90

The League "Dr Faustus" - German Helles Lager - All Grain Kit 23l

This recipe was not specifically designed to be consistent with the BJCP style guides, but we believe it is similar to 04A - Munich Helles.

A not quite traditional German Helles lager brewed using Best Malz. This malt is newly available in New Zealand after centuries of production in Germany. Light and highly sessionable, perfect for a hot day.

We used some Hallertau Blanc to give it a subtle fruity twist - don't tell the Germans!

    ABV: 5.0%

Our kits are fresh! We assemble the ingredients after you place your order. The grain bill will be milled, unless you tell us in your order comments that you prefer it not to be.

This recipe has been designed to use acid malt to reach the target mash pH. If you wish to use the recommended mineral additions to achieve the intended flavour profile, these are to be added to the boil only. This kit does not include the minerals, but these can be purchased separately.

The League "House Party" - Kveik Fruit Bomb IPA All Grain Kit 23l

This recipe was not specifically designed to be consistent with the BJCP style guides, but we believe it is similar to 21B - Specialty IPA - NE IPA

This beer was brewed for the NZ Hops release party of the Hort 4337 trial hop, but thanks to Covid19 that didn't happen. Good news for you - instead of going to a group of commercial brewers & hop growers, it's now available for sale - and this is the kit to brew it yoursel! It's loaded with 4337 hops with a little backup of Mosaic hops.

The malt is mainly Pilsner & Vienna by BestMalz from Germany supported by two different types of Oats and some wheat malt.

    Target ABV: 6.5%

    Ingredients
    - Malts - lager

  5. Centennial Hops - Pellets (US)
    $10.80

    Centennial Hops - Pellets (US)

Centennial is an aroma-type cultivar, bred in 1974 and released in 1990. The genetic composition is 3/4 Brewers Gold, 3/32 Fuggle, 1/16 East Kent Golding, 1/32 Bavarian and 1/16 unknown.

A relatively new hop on the market, this hop used to be called CFJ90. Described by some as a "Super Cascade" and we tend to agree, but it's not nearly as "citrusy". Some even use it for aroma as well as bittering. Bitterness is quite clean and can have floral notes depending on the boil time. (alpha acid: 9.5-11.5% / beta acid: 4.0-5.0%)

  6. Lallemand Verdant IPA yeast
    $9.00

    Lallemand Verdant IPA yeast

LalBrew® Verdant IPA was specially selected in collaboration with Verdant Brewing Co. (UK) for its ability to produce a variety of hop-forward and malty beers. Prominent notes of apricot and undertones of tropical fruit and citrus merge seamlessly with hop aromas.

With medium-high attenuation, LalBrew® Verdant IPA leaves a soft and balanced malt profile with slightly more body than a typical American IPA yeast strain. This highly versatile strain is well suited for a variety of beer styles including NEIPA, English IPA, American Pale, English Bitter, Sweet Stout and Sours.

    Gladfield Roasted Wheat malt

(bulk product - please select amount on product page)
This is a bulk product - one unit equals 1kg.

Gladfield Roasted Wheat is produced by roasting unmalted wheat. It is a great way to get those roasted coffee and chocolate flavours without the extra bitterness that comes from roasted barley or chocolate malt. The wheat malt, lacking its outer husk, is less susceptible to burning at the higher roasting temperatures which prevents bitter and astringent flavors. This malt is a great addition to any darker beer style.

This is the 1.7kg can only. We also sell this as part of a 23L kit including dry malt extract and yeast. It can be used in BOTH the Premium Lager and the Blonde Ale recipes, with a different yeast in each case.

  11. Calcium Carbonate (bulk) 200g Calcium Carbonate (bulk) 200g
    $5.90

    Calcium Carbonate (bulk) 200g

Because of its limited solubility Calcium Carbonate is only effective when added directly to the mash. Use for making dark beers in areas of soft water. Calcium Carbonate raises pH.

    $7.50/kg

    Gladfield Golden Oat

    Brewmaster Strawberry Enhancer

This is a concentrated essence to use wherever you want to easily add a specific flavour. Maybe a strawberry blonde ale?

The best way to use these in beer brewing (or any other liquid) is to take multiple samples of a specific volume (i.e. 200ml) and dose them using a pipette in different concentrations - then compare and pick the one you like most - then scale up from there. A little can go a long way!

Works also great for baking & cooking.

  18. Wyeast - London Ale - Strain 1028
    $25.00

    Wyeast - London Ale - Strain 1028

    Species: Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Profile: A rich mineral profile that is bold and crisp with some fruitiness. Often used for higher gravity ales and when a high level of attenuation is desired.

    Metric Temperature Range: 15-22 °C

IN-STOCK YEAST: We maintain stock of high-selling liquid yeasts in the shop, to make it easy for anyone who needs liquid yeast in a hurry. These will always be sold within the best before date. If a strain is out of stock, then it won't show up as an option for you to purchase. If you want the freshest liquid yeast, or if we are out of stock, consider using the pre-order option. Pre-ordered yeasts are ordered directly from the manufacturer on your behalf and we do not use in-stock yeast to fulfil pre-orders.

PREORDER DEADLINE: Every 2 months we place a liquid yeast order with Wyeast. All pre-orders placed will be part of our next order from the supplier, subject to the supplier having your pre-ordered strain in stock.

We place our orders on or after the 20th of the month. The deadline to ensure your pre-order is included is midnight the day before.

All pre-orders will be available for pickup or shipping after we receive the yeast which is usually around the first week of the month.

*Note: we will ship your order when your yeast arrives, so if you wish to place an order for other items and want to receive them sooner, please place a separate order.

  19. Wyeast - Bavarian Wheat - Strain 3638
    $25.00

    Wyeast - Bavarian Wheat - Strain 3638

    Species: Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Profile: A complex alternative to the standard German wheat strain profile. This strain produces apple, pear, and plum esters in addition to the dominant banana character. The esters are complemented nicely by clove and subtle vanilla phenolics. The balance can be manipulated towards ester production through increasing fermentation temperature, increasing the wort density, and decreasing the pitch rate. Over pitching can result in a near complete loss of banana character. Decreasing the ester level will allow a higher clove character to be perceived. Sulfur is commonly produced, but will dissipate with conditioning. This strain is very powdery and will remain in suspension for an extended amount of time following attenuation. This is true top cropping yeast and requires fermentor headspace of 33%.

    Metric Temperature Range: 18-24 °C

    FLOCCULATION: Low
    ATTENUATION: 70 - 76
    ABV: 10

With attenuation averaging around 70 to 75%, some malt flavor will remain present. For best fermentation results, let this strain free-rise to allow for complete attenuation and production of the subtle, traditional aroma characteristics. With high gravity saisons, it’s suggested to dry the beer with an alternate yeast (such as WLP001 California Ale Yeast®) added after 50 to 60% fermentation.
