A shank is used to attach a beer tap to a housing (i.e. a fridge door) and to the beer line.
The length of the beer shank determines how thick the wall/door can be you can attach the beer tap to.

Ensures there are no leaks when using a 5/8" hex nut and an angle or straight barbtail.

The purpose of Neoprene washers is to create a tight fitting seal. The flexibility of rubber means that the bearing surface can be compressed for a tight fit. The neoprene also provides effective protection against corrosion.
