This recipe has been designed to be consistent with the 2015 BJCP Style guide 25C - Belgian Golden Strong Ale

Devilicious is a Belgian Golden Strong Ale recipe designed for The League of Brewers by Jamie McQuillan of Cell Division Brewery. The Trappist monks might well have been naughty devils coming up with such a spectacularly easy drinking beer for the abv, but we’re not complaining. Typical of the style, this recipe is built upon Pilsner malt, but also includes a touch of chit malt to encourage head formation, with the added bonus of improving your mash efficiency. But don’t blame us if the latter part works extra well!

The incorporation of demerara sugar substantially boosts the abv and dries out the finished beer. Pouring bright with a pale, golden colour and a rocky, white head, this beer is super dry with fruity and peppery abbey ale yeast notes, complemented by herbal hops. It should be effervescent and comes to life with high levels of carbonation, particularly if you choose to bottle condition. At 9.2% abv, the devil is definitely in the details when it comes to brewing this beer without the production of harsh, solventy alcohol flavours. Follow the instructions to the letter or be damned!
