What else do I need to buy for a ginger beer kit, and how strong will it be?
Most concentrate and pouch kits in this range need fermentable sugar that is not in the box: typically 500g to 1kg of dextrose, or 1.2kg of liquid malt extract for the Mangrove Jack's pouch. They make 20 to 23L per batch, so you also need a fermenter, airlock and bottles or a keg of that size. Finished strength is modest, around 3% to 4.4% ABV on the kits that state it. Some kits, including Buderim and Morgan's, can also be brewed non-alcoholic by following the maker's box instructions, so decide which you want before you start. If you only want a small batch, the Mad Millie old fashioned kit includes a 5L glass fermenting jar, airlock and yeast and makes six 750ml bottles per brew, but the bottles are bought separately.
