Questions & answers

What is the difference between crown seal and flip top glass bottles for homebrew?

Crown seal bottles need separate caps and a capper and suit bottling in bulk, such as the 500ml and 750ml cases of 12 listed on this page. Flip top bottles have attached reusable lids with seals and suit smaller batches and don't need a separate capper. Replacement flip top lids with seals and seal caps are also listed on this page.

Which glass bottle sizes are available and how do I choose between them?

This page lists 330ml bottles (box of 28), 500ml cases of 12 in crown seal and flip top, and 750ml cases in crown seal and flip top plus a 750ml six-pack. Larger 750ml bottles are useful if you don't want to fill too many bottles from your batch, 500ml are considered the standard size for beer, while 330ml bottles suit high ABV brews, sharing and gifting. All bottles on this page are many times reusable for packaging homemade drinks.

What extra gear do I need to cap the bottles?

Crown seal bottles need caps and a capper (and later to open - a bottle opener). Flip top bottles close with their own attached lids and can be opened without a bottle opener, and replacement flip top lids with seals are listed on this page if seals wear out.
