In 2013, Simon and Nicki Nicholas left their high-pressure Auckland life behind and, with daughter Lily, moved to rural Riwaka, in the heart of the Tasman District’s hop-growing region. In September that year, Hop Federation opened its doors, a small independent brewery with an initial offering of four New Zealand style ales.

One of their iconic beer is the Red IPA, one of the best examples of the style in New Zealand.

An exuberant blend of colour, flavours and aromas; Red IPA is our signature beer.

With predominantly local hops and slightly above-average alcohol content, our Red IPA has the same confidence and individuality that characterise our own former colony. Tantalising passionfruit aromas give way to a delightful and unexpected combination of berries, tart ruby grapefruit and a comforting toasty malt on the palate, rounded off with a satisfying, sustained finish.

This is Hop Federation's entry in to the Iconic Nelson 2014 Marchfest Beer Festival.

    Malt: Vienna, Caramalt
